Vaccination Guidelines for Cats & Dogs

All kittens should receive Feline Enteritis and ‘Flu’ (Herpes & Calicivirus) termed Feline 3 at 6-8 weeks of age followed by a booster at 12-14 weeks of age. Most kittens should receive a flu only booster at 16-18 weeks of age as well. A booster F3 vaccine is given at 15 months of age; then 1-3 yearly based on individual risk.

The VGG (World Vaccine Guideline Group) has recently produced revised guidelines on the frequency of feline vaccinations based on lifestyle. When to desex your family pet?

desex-pup

At EHVH we feel it is important to provide our clients with current & well researched peer reviewed information. This may cause an ‘about-turn’ on long held policy; but ultimately it is for you as owner to be provided with facts enabling you to make your own decision based on personal circumstances.

Dental Hygiene

dental3lowresIf your family pets teeth look like this photo – congratulations! Keep doing what you are doing.

DENTAL4BUT if they look like the photo to the right – we suggest you get them cleaned, because it could be causing kidney & heart valve damage.

Bad breath is caused by gum infections & plaque build up, as in humans. Some of these bacteria enter the blood stream where they can lodge onto heart valves and enter the filtering apparatus of the kidneys.

How to lose 15kg in 2 hours!

LUMP pre-op“Rex”, a 52kg Labrador presented with a large weighty fatty growth (lipoma) over the top of his chest. He was finding it hard to move around and it appeared to pull him to one side such was the weight he had to endure.

At surgery, we required three surgeons, a much used electro cautery unit to cope with the multitude of vessels encountered, a separate surgery trolley to support and to roll the mass away as we dissected it clear of the trunk, and close attention to IV fluid support and blood pressure.
